IMPORTANT UPDATE: Our office is currently waiting on specific dates, details and instructions from the Colorado OEDIT for the FY2015 grants. We will post this information as soon as its available. Thank you!

The Bioscience Discovery Evaluation Grant Program (BDEGP) was created by the Colorado General Assembly in 2006 to develop the state’s bioscience industry; it was recently extended through 2018.  The program was intended to leverage innovative bioscience discoveries made at Colorado’s major research institutions in order to create new jobs and companies.  Money is available, under the program, to fund proof of concept bioscience research and to accelerate the success of bioscience startup companies who have licensed technology from one of Colorado’s research institutions.

Proof of Concept (POC) Awards:

Grants of up to $75,000 are available to CSU faculty in order to enhance the commercial potential of bioscience research projects that focus on life sciences, engineering, material sciences, computer sciences, photonics, nanotechnology, or biofuels.  Awards require one-to-one cost sharing.  The selection process at CSU is carried out through CSU Ventures.  Preference will be given to those projects exhibiting the greatest commercial potential and potential to create jobs in Colorado.

CSU’s Energy Institute is offering matching funds for both BDEGP and Advanced Industries grant opportuntities. The Institute will provide up to $20,000 per application for selected applications that pertain specifically to Energy (applications may also fall under other advanced industries). Please enter “Energy Institute” into the box labeled “Match Source” on the information sheet. This will enter your application into a competitive pool, from which the Institute can only match a limited number of applications. Applications not selected for Institute match funds will not be provided an opportunity to identify an alternative source of matching funds.

To begin the application process, please submit a Letter of Intent (LOI) by 4pm on October 21, 2013, following the instructions provided. LOIs should be submitted to:  bdegp@colostate.edu.

Early-Stage Company (ESC) Awards:

Early-stage bioscience companies whose technology is licensed from a qualified research institution in Colorado, such as CSU, can apply for a maximum of $250,000 through the BDEGP. Like POC awards, these grants require one-to-one cost sharing. Grants are designed to support the commercialization of therapeutic or diagnostic products; devices, or instruments to improve human health; bioscience technologies that improve agriculture; or biofuels. The selection process will be carried out directly through the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (COEDIT) according to the Rules and Application document available here.  Please see www.advancecolorado.com for additional information and relevant deadlines.
